SIOP RTSG Surgical Subcommittee Meeting

& Symposium on Paediatric Surgical Oncology – Wroclaw, 19 – 21st of April 2018

Wroclaw, February 25th, 2018

Dear Friends and Colleges,

Members of the Surgical Subcommittee

of the SIOP Renal Tumours Study Group

Dear Friends,

The time is running fast! In 2 months, the section of Oncology of Polish Society of Paediatric Surgeons will organise (Wroclaw, Poland, 19-21st of April, 2018) symposium addressed to paediatric surgical oncology. As the Chairman of both this Section and the Surgical Subcommittee of the SIOP RTSG I would be more than happy if we could meet at that occasion. Half a day (19th of April afternoon) would be reserved for the official working-meeting of the SIOP RTSG Surgical Subcommittee. We will have enough time to discuss all the surgical issues “in depth”. Of course, we will not be alone – Chair of the SIOP RTSG, prof. Norbert Graf confirmed his participation and will help us from the paediatric side. As I wrote in November, the formula of this meeting will be open and also the non-members of the SIOP RTSG Surgical Subcommittee are welcome to see how the subcommittee works and, if They wish, actively participate in our discussions. The main points of program will be as follows:

  1. Consultation platform and co-operation with PaedCan ERN
  2. Quality control within our study
  3. Discussion of ongoing projects (eg. anatomical vs. non-anatomical NSS in terms of complications and completeness, IVC – an effort to build the recommendations specific for Wilms tumour with the IVC thrombus)
  4. 3-D virtual imaging for planning NSS

Our RTSG half-a-day will be followed by the symposium on surgical oncology (19th of April evening, and 20th of April – whole day) with several sessions. Of course, the renal tumours will be dominating issue, but we will also have presentations and lectures on surgery for hepatoblastoma, neuroblastoma, soft tissue sarcoma, germinal tumours and fertility sparing, and of course – “varia” for those presentations which do not meet any of the previously mentioned topics. I would like to invite You to participate also in this part and I will be delighted having some submissions from Your side. Several Colleges already confirmed their participation including fantastic speakers like Norbert Graf, Dietrich von Schweinitz, Giovanni Cecchetto, Sabine Irtan, Marc Wijnen, Peter Ehrlich, Sandeep Agrawala, Sajid Quresi, Ewa Koscielniak, Sabine Sarnacki, Simone Abib, Piotr Czauderna, Kathy Pritchard-Jones, Guido Seitz etc.

We will be able to wait for the abstract submissions no longer than until 18th of March. We will also be happy to have your registration within the same time-frame. However in my last announcement I promised to be flexible, for technical reasons it will be difficult to extend more the dead-line.

In the other attachments You will find the modified version of the preliminary program (not final yet), and the information on suggested hotels.

We prepared also an attractive social program: all the participants are invited to take a part in welcome reception on April 19th and the official dinner on April 20th. The next morning, April 21st, we encourage those Colleges who decided to stay longer in Wroclaw to join us on Guided Tour of Wroclaw and guided lunch which will follow the tour. During this lunch, the Cook-guide will explain us the specificity of dishes which are considered Polish, but maybe are not at all.

Wroclaw in late April is really nice place with moderate climate; just an ideal “meeting place”

Please consider coming and joining us here in Wroclaw in coming spring!
