SIOP RTSG Surgical Subcommittee Meeting

& Symposium on Paediatric Surgical Oncology – Wroclaw, 19 – 20th of April 2018

Wroclaw, November 8th, 2017

Dear Friends and Colleges,

Members of the Surgical Subcommittee

of the SIOP Renal Tumours Study Group

The last annual meeting of the SIOP RTSG in Palma di Mallorca was an intensive event in all meanings. Like the whole SIOP RTSG, our subcommittee is also growing and approximately 30 surgeons were present in the room. During our surgical part some new ideas and new obligations were discussed. Several Colleges asked also the questions related to their cases. Finally, the idea to organise purely surgical meeting to respond all those needs was warmly accepted by members.

In 6 months, the section of Oncology of Polish Society of Paediatric Surgeons will organise (Wroclaw, Poland, 19-21st of April, 2018) symposium addressed to paediatric surgical oncology. As the Chairman of both this Section and the Surgical Subcommittee of the SIOP RTSG I would be more than happy if we could meet at that occasion. Half a day would be reserved for the official working-meeting of the SIOP RTSG Surgical Subcommittee. We will have enough time to discuss all the surgical issues “in depth”. Of course, we will not be alone – Chair of the SIOP RTSG, prof. Norbert Graf promised to be with us and help us from the paediatric side. I would suggest an open formula of our meeting to allow the participation to Foreign and Polish surgeons interested in our field but not involved in our subcommittee. We need to re-discuss the question of consultations, access to RTSG web and maybe our section there. There are also some on-going projects (anatomical vs. non-anatomical NSS in terms of complications and completeness, IVC – an effort to build the recommendations specific for Wilms tumour with the IVC thrombus). The program will be flexible and open to Your suggestions. We plan also some attraction: Dutch Colleges proposed to show us certain technical novelty they developed in Prinsess Maxima to better visualise local anatomy when considering NSS. – Having the regular imaging (MRI or CT) uploaded to “the device”, You will be able to see in the virtual 3D space the relationships (and not only!) between the kidney, renal vessels and the tumour. This way we believe to gain an interesting supportive tool to better assess the possibility of NSS.

Our RTSG half-a-day will be followed by the symposium on surgical oncology. I would like to invite You to participate also in this part and I will be delighted having some submissions from Your side and help in chairing the sessions.
